The way you highlighted social engagement in Independent and Assisted Living is so important. Loneliness is a big issue for seniors. I saw similar advice on elder care , which stresses the value of community in senior living.
I’ve seen how small assisted living homes create a family atmosphere where caregivers naturally step in to help with meals and hygiene. respite care seems aligned with that model of care.
It’s good to see emphasis on personal choice—some seniors want more autonomy, others feel safer with 24/7 nursing care. On elder care , they talk a lot about matching personality and preferences to the right type of community.
Great suggestion to observe resident-staff interactions during a tour. I’ll direct readers to think about that on elder care .

Families often don’t realize how important activities calendars are. We suggest reviewing them carefully on senior care services too.
Your explanation makes it clear that Independent Living is more like a retirement community, while Nursing Homes are more clinical. That’s consistent with what I’ve read on assisted living when comparing different senior housing models.
I’ll be recommending this article to anyone who uses the decision-making worksheets on respite care for assisted living planning.
